"Max's Breakfast" is the second third of the second episode of the first season of Max & Ruby.
Characters Present[]
Plot[]
Max refuses to eat his breakfast, a sunny-side-up egg, and wants strawberries instead. Ruby is distracted when Max tries attempts to hide his egg.
Synopsis[]
The episode starts with a radio singing a song about breakfast and to start your day in a healthy way. Ruby is then shown eating her egg at the table and talking about how delicious her egg is. After drinking her juice, she calls her brother, Max, to come down stairs to eat his breakfast. Max then wakes up from his sleep with his soggy eyes. Max walks out of his room while Ruby prepares her strawberries on the table.
Ruby takes a bite on one of her strawberries and finds it delicious. Max is then seen on the kitchen with his soggy eyes and he gets excited when he sees the strawberries on the table. Max attempts to eat a strawberry, but Ruby stops him and says she has something even better than the strawberries. This excites Max, but his excitement is ruined when he sees that he has to eat the egg Ruby has prepared for him. Max calls out thinking that the egg is bad and Ruby thinks the egg is good and a short argument ensues. (On the argument, Max says, "BAD EGG!". And Ruby says, "No. Good egg".)
Ruby takes a strawberry and waits for Max to try out the egg. This annoys him so he attempts to eat the strawberries again, but Ruby stops him again. Max can only eat the strawberries only when he has finished his egg. Ruby keeps telling Max to eat his egg in order to have the strawberries. Ruby leaves the table to cook some toasted bread in the toaster. And she makes herself and Max some toast.
At the same time, Max plays with his egg when Ruby is waiting for her toast. Ruby eventually catches Max and prevents the egg from falling to the floor. Ruby says to Max he is supposed to eat his egg and not play with it. Ruby gives Max a spoon so he can eat the egg, but Max continues to deny the food. Max drops his spoon and Ruby takes the time to pick the spoon up. And she says that she does not want the egg on his plate when she comes back. (That is, as she says, "When I come back, I do not want to see that egg on your plate. All right?". Max --faking it-- nods to that in agreement and that he is going to eat his egg.)
However, despite Max's agreement, he instead hides his egg by covering it with a napkin. The scene cuts to Ruby. And she is seen making toast for herself and Max. She mutters the fact about eggs. Then she says that once you try an egg, you might want one for breakfast every day.
After picking up the spoon, Ruby is unable to find Max's egg. Ruby quickly finds out that Max is covering the egg with a napkin. (When she sees the egg, she says, "Hmmm! I thought so!". That is, in a stern tone.) With the egg found, Max says he wants strawberries. But Ruby, she tells him that he still needs to finish his egg. Ruby gives Max his spoon back and her toast has been prepared by the toaster. While Ruby is preparing her bread, she talks about what makes eggs so nutritional and good.
While Ruby is preparing her bread, Max decides to hide his egg by flipping his plate. Ruby is able to quickly find Max's egg and he still refuses to eat his egg. After Ruby puts Max's egg back onto his plate, he throws his handkerchief which distracts her from seeing on what Max is doing. With her distracted, Max decides to hide his egg on a chair. Once Ruby is done picking up the handkerchief, she sees that Max no longer has his egg on the table.
This causes her to believe that Max has finished his egg. And she says that Max can have the strawberries now the egg is all gone. That is, until she discovers his hidden egg. (Finally, Max's last hiding place is the egg on the chair.) Ruby puts the egg back onto the plate. But he (Max) still thinks it is a bad egg. And thus, he (Max) does not want to eat it. Ruby figures that the only way to convince Max to eat his egg is if she "feeds him". (That is, as she says, "Okay, Max. I guess the only way I am going to get you to eat that egg is if I feed you".) Then she says Max should be surprised when he tastes it.
When Ruby takes a scoop of the egg (trying to feed Max), she tells him to "open wide". That is, however she notices that Max has disappeared. And she asks Max where he went. (That is, as she says, "Max?! Where did you go?!".) Ruby takes a look around the kitchen and finds him hiding under the table.
Ruby picks up Max (who is still trying to avoid eating the egg) from under the table and puts him back to his chair. When Ruby tries to feed Max his egg, he still continues to say that it is a bad egg. (He also still says he does not like it.) When Ruby attempts to put the egg (first bite of it) into Max's mouth, he moves his face away from the egg. That is, preventing her (Ruby) from getting it into his mouth. To prove to Max that the egg is good, Ruby proceeds to take a bite of the egg herself to say that it is tasty. However Max is not convinced the egg is good, so Ruby continues to eat his egg until it is gone.
Ruby then realizes what she has done with the egg when Max tells her the egg is gone. Max takes the opportunity to eat the strawberries as the episode ends.

Trivia[]
- On Wikipedia and OVGuide, Max's breakfast is called a sunny-side-up egg, though in the episode Ruby calls it a bunny-side-up egg.
- This is the second episode Max is in his bedtime clothes. Only this time, they're green instead of blue.
Goofs[]
- If Max did not want the egg, he could have tried the toast.
- However, in the first place, it would make more sense that after Ruby made toast, she'd put the egg on his toast. Then Max would have had egg on toast for breakfast.
